A health condition can sometimes affect a child’s energy, attendance, movement, concentration or ability to take part in certain activities. Clear communication with the school helps prevent misunderstandings and makes it easier for teachers to give the right support. The aim is not to make your child feel different, but to make sure they can learn, participate and feel included.
The aim is to help your child take part safely rather than automatically excluding them from activities.
Tell the school when medicines, symptoms, hospital admissions or activity restrictions change. As your child grows, encourage them to understand their condition in simple terms, tell an adult when they feel unwell, ask for a break or help when needed, and take part in decisions about their school support.
